Introduction

Hello, my name is Eric. My friends and family call me Rik. Your going to say why the K if my name is spelled with a C. RIK looks so much better than RIC doesn't it? My family owns Advanced Restoration Corp. We are a full service restoration company that specializes in the restoration and reconstruction of homes/buildings damaged due to fire, water, smoke, or mold damage to name a few. We are based on Long Island but we service Manhattan to Montauk. We are company For Long Island by Long Islanders.


About me...............
I grew up on Long Island. Went to a catholic elementary school in Babylon, NY. Then I attended high school at St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip, NY. I played 3 sports @ SJB: football, basketball, and baseball. My favorite sport is football. I was the quarterback my senior year. I am a huge Dallas Cowboy fan. Don't know why. My father was NY Giant fan, grew up rooting against him. Only Yankee/Red Sox is a better sports rivalry in my opinion (Met Fan). Attended my 1st semester in college. Did not go away because I was stupid (in love) and chose to play football (Div 2) locally instead. Om the Sat night the weekend before my finals, I went out with some friends. It was exactly a week before XMas. Driving home we were hit by a drunk driver who left the scene of the accident. We were in a soft top Jeep Wrangler and it flipped over about a mile from my house. Unfortunately, my friend was tossed out the back window and killed. I had a nice concussion, road rash, and a broken back which I got fused 10 years later. I don't think I was wearing a seat belt. The driver had a concussion. The other driver was found, had no insurance. Do not know if he ever faced charges.


I never went back to college after that and instead started working for my father full time in the restoration business. I started out on the trucks as a helper. That was over 15 years ago. Slowly working my way up the food chain. I have done everything in this company from technician, data entry, claims coordinator, estimator, and project manager. I also worked up in Rhode Island for 2.5 years as a Project Manager/Estimator for a very large restoration company to gain experience in a much larger company. I have been back working at Advanced for over a year now.


Between the two companies I have worked downtown NYC after 9/11, Florida after hurricanes, and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I was lucky enough to see New Orleans about 3 weeks before Katrina hit. Me and my cousin spent 4 days there on Bourbon Street. Big Hint: Do not go to New Orleans in the middle of the summer if you are a single male. It was all couples. I have not been back since. I handle all the production for the Water/Cleaning Division of Advanced Restoration. I am certified in mold remediation, water mitigation, and Advanced Structural Drying.


Our website is also my baby. Big technology nerd, Sci-Fi Geek (the new Star Trek blew away any of the last 3 Star Wars). Movie/TV enthusiast. Does anyone watch Dexter? I love to read. I have a Kindle. Just finished A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink. Any comment or feedback pertaining to my site would be greatly appreciated.



Why Blog?
Obviously I blog for my business. It is a great way to get my name out in front of people that I would normally not get a chance to encounter. Trying to learn all I can about Social Media and Social Media Marketing. I am going to use this blog to talk about my industry related topics, technology, movies, TV, music (huge Billy Joel fan), and anything else that might cross my mind or piss me off.
